Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

Studies indicate that ketamine can lead to the:

Ketamine is believed to be effective in psychotherapy for three reasons:

  2. It reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex, thus reducing central sensitization.

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?





Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy means engaging in psychotherapy and using Ketamine as an aid. It is not engaging in Ketamine and using psychotherapy as an aid.

These conversations allow the individual to explore and address emotional and mental health issues in a safe and supportive environment. WHAT IS KETAMINE?





Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly- acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement. Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges. In my work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form.



HOW DOES KETAMINE FEEL





  • The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience. Once these effects subside, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happens during the experience, patients feel like the insights gained are clear.

For clients not currently in psychotherapy with me (Dr Lynne). During this session, we get to know each other, complete a mental health assessment and discuss what you want to achieve with KAP.



Preparation Session

Preparation sessions includes learning about what to expect during your dosing session, essential things to know, and set your intentions for the KAP dosing session



Dosing Sessions





THREE HOURS EACH

You will self-administer your ketamine lozenge at my office or remote. I sit with you the whole time, providing you a sense of safety and support. I will use an integrative therapy approach to help you start processing your experience.



Integration Sessions





ONE HOUR EACH

We review the insights, images, thoughts, and feelings that you experienced, so you can gain better clarity and create a unified lesson that will stay with you.

**In just 4-6 weeks (about 1 and a half months), you will have 11 highly effective therapy session hours, delivering better results than 11 sessions of traditional psychotherapy spread out over 11-23 weeks (about 6 months).

**KETAMINE INFUSIONS AT KETAMINE CLINICS: usually costs $400 to $800 per treatment, not including psychotherapy sessions, and most ketamine clinics perform a series of 6 treatments over 2 to 3 weeks (that's about $3,300). Some providers offer 4 treatments over 1 to 2 weeks. Several ketamine clinics will evaluate whether or not the patient responds to the first infusion before proceeding with subsequent infusions. The majority of ketamine providers seem to request an upfront payment for a complete set of 4 to 6 infusions. Depending on the price per infusion, this can cost the patient anywhere from $1600 to $4800 for a full series of IV ketamine treatments for depression.
